If you are anything like me, I am a foodie. I simply love food and enjoy eating it. This year has been a whirlwind of insanity with the this situation and it has put a big spin on lots of things. The big thing for me and my family is that we have been forced to work from home. Normally I love working from home, but when I am now stuck at home for months on end with no place to go it does get tiresome. This has also led to some other unforeseen consequences on my own dental health and physical health. Being stuck at home has had its issues and for me loving food I have been eating a bit more than normal.
This is because I am able to have food around me at all time. I work from home so the kitchen is sometimes my office. Literally I work from my kitchen a lot because my wife uses the house office for her work. This means I am surrounded by the things I love all the time and I have ended up eating more. This is fine physically as long as you are taking the time to work off the amount of extra calories you are eating, but that does not take into account the dental hygiene aspect of eating all the extra food and consuming extra beverages as well.
So you may ask yourself what is the big issue? The issue is that if you don't brush your teeth and floss enough to overcome all the extra possible tooth damaging foods and beverages you can end up needing the dentist a whole lot more. Plaque builds up and tartar can start causing major issues in your mouth. If you are not doing the right things to combat this your opening your body up to serious medical issues and it is hard to deal with those in 2020 when hospitals are no longer working normally.
What are some things you can do to help overcome these foodie issues? Well I like to call it my pandemic water bottle. I think drinking water is good and keep your mouth hydrated. This allows for saliva to flow and keep cleaning your teeth and mouth throughout the day. It is important to not get dehydrated or drink too much coffee.
This is why I have started to make some dietary changes even beyond the water bottle. I have implemented caffeine pills and tea into my morning routine. The acid build up and extra food is causing problems due to all the coffee I drink. This is going to have long term effects and I know it will be worth making a change now instead of waiting till I need a dentist to do so. My morning now consists of adding caffeine pills to my morning vitamin intake. THat is actually the first thing I do in the morning so it was an easy habit to start. This eliminated the need for coffee, but not the need to feel warmth in the morning.
That is where tea came in as a substitute. So I brew tea after I take my vitamins and am using this to help replace the bad coffee and help keep my mouth safe. So stay safe during the pandemic and try to be wise about eating and drinking too much!

Never have I been more at a loss for words then the other day. I was finally ready to get a new toothbrush. My bristles were no longer holding the paste up and I decided that was simply too soft and it was time for a replacement. It happens every few years for me and usually I find it to be a fun experience. Dental hygiene is something that I try to keep up with and yet I am not a role model for dental health either. So I will say make sure to follow your healthcare providers information first. As I am not giving medical advice only talking about my megure dental experiences. So after the droopy toothpaste experience I decided it was time to work on getting a new brush. So I started off by doing what most people do. Going on amazon and seeing what was out there. After browsing for 15 minutes or so I was unable to choose the brush for me because there were so many promises and sizes and shapes. It actually confused me a bit. So then I decided to research on the internet. So many websites came up with ads for this and that. The general notion that a soft toothbrush was most prominent but then there were a few people swearing that a harder brush got plaque off better. The harder I looked the more mixed information I found on both sides of the bristle conversation. Shoot I even found a 5,000 dollar toothbrush but it was not promising anything more than the 4 dollar one on amazon. After being a little frustrated I just picked up my mask so ask not to get arrested on the way to the grocery store and headed in. The looks of fear and worry that normally happen at the local kroger started already. All i had to do was walk close to someone while going through the door and fear already began. But I pushed it aside because my dental health was at stake. So I went to the toothbrush isle and saw what seemed like thousands of brushes. Soft bristles, hard bristles, sized for kids and ergonomic this and that. It was all just as crazy as Amazon. It turns out the not so flashy brush that said soft bristles and had a fun pattern on them was the winner for me. Simple, safe, and I won't be going down that isle until next year! Now while the world is a little crazy it is time to implement the right routine for brushing. Since many of us are working from home we are also eating a little more at home than normal. But since we are able to I suggest adding an extra brushing time into your day. Make it a lunch habit so you get a little extra protection in through the day. So after you clock out and head to the kitchen. Make your food and then eat it. But at the end make a conscious decision to go brush your teeth as though it was the end of lunch break. This implemented will give much added protection against plaque and tartar build up through the day and fight against the extra drinks or snacks that you add on by being at home. |
