If you are anything like me, I am a foodie. I simply love food and enjoy eating it. This year has been a whirlwind of insanity with the this situation and it has put a big spin on lots of things. The big thing for me and my family is that we have been forced to work from home. Normally I love working from home, but when I am now stuck at home for months on end with no place to go it does get tiresome. This has also led to some other unforeseen consequences on my own dental health and physical health. Being stuck at home has had its issues and for me loving food I have been eating a bit more than normal.
This is because I am able to have food around me at all time. I work from home so the kitchen is sometimes my office. Literally I work from my kitchen a lot because my wife uses the house office for her work. This means I am surrounded by the things I love all the time and I have ended up eating more. This is fine physically as long as you are taking the time to work off the amount of extra calories you are eating, but that does not take into account the dental hygiene aspect of eating all the extra food and consuming extra beverages as well.
So you may ask yourself what is the big issue? The issue is that if you don't brush your teeth and floss enough to overcome all the extra possible tooth damaging foods and beverages you can end up needing the dentist a whole lot more. Plaque builds up and tartar can start causing major issues in your mouth. If you are not doing the right things to combat this your opening your body up to serious medical issues and it is hard to deal with those in 2020 when hospitals are no longer working normally.
What are some things you can do to help overcome these foodie issues? Well I like to call it my pandemic water bottle. I think drinking water is good and keep your mouth hydrated. This allows for saliva to flow and keep cleaning your teeth and mouth throughout the day. It is important to not get dehydrated or drink too much coffee.
This is why I have started to make some dietary changes even beyond the water bottle. I have implemented caffeine pills and tea into my morning routine. The acid build up and extra food is causing problems due to all the coffee I drink. This is going to have long term effects and I know it will be worth making a change now instead of waiting till I need a dentist to do so. My morning now consists of adding caffeine pills to my morning vitamin intake. THat is actually the first thing I do in the morning so it was an easy habit to start. This eliminated the need for coffee, but not the need to feel warmth in the morning.
That is where tea came in as a substitute. So I brew tea after I take my vitamins and am using this to help replace the bad coffee and help keep my mouth safe. So stay safe during the pandemic and try to be wise about eating and drinking too much!
